OCC baler, box baler, cardboard baler

Business owners are always interested in maximizing their profit. In addition to selling their main product or services, one of the easiest ways a business can increase their revenues to some extent is by recycling the waste generated instead of discarding the waste.

The Market of OCC

Due to the increase in eCommerce, especially online sales of various products, the demand for cardboard packaging has grown rapidly in the last decade. This packaging is manufactured by recycling old corrugated containers (OCC) and the market for OCC is increasing rapidly worldwide.

Researchers like Future Market Insights claim that the total OCC market in 2022 is valued at US$14.7 billion and is projected to increase to US$22 billion in 2032. The compounded annual growth rate for the OCC market is expected to be 4.1% since it is a sustainable packaging material, with more than 73% of corrugated cardboard recycled in some countries like Germany. The five largest markets for OCC in the world are United States, China, India, Germany, and Japan.

A majority of the OCC used for recycling is sourced from commercial and industrial sources, since they receive a large amount of their raw material in cardboard packaging. Instead of discarding these cardboard packaging, it is better to invest money in a cardboard baler machine, which converts the old corrugated containers (OCC) into high density cardboard bales which can be sold to the recycling companies at a higher price.

Why Need Cardboard Box Balers?

Usually, the corrugated cardboard boxes used for packaging product parts and components are bulky and with low density. The cost of transporting the old corrugated cardboard also depends on the volume of the cardboard, since the transport vehicles can only transport a limited volume of cardboard at a time. While the cardboard waste seller will usually be paid according to the weight of the cardboard, if the cost of transporting the cardboard is high, due to the higher volume, the seller will get a lower price. Hence companies which generate a considerable amount of cardboard waste, should consider investing in a cardboard compactor machine to get a better price for the cardboard waste generated.

Additionally, many businesses have small business premises, and the cardboard box waste which is scattered around can make the premises look cluttered. If all the cardboard waste is converted into bales using a small cardboard baler, there will be more free space available. Often pests like termites and vermin may flourish in the cardboard boxes, feeding on it. If the cardboard is converted into high density bales, and sold to the recycler, the business or factory premises will be cleaner and pest free. Cardboard may catch fire and removing it reduces the fire hazard.

Recycling cardboard is also ecofriendly, landfills are not required for the waste.

Choosing the Right Cardboard Baler

There are a large variety of cardboard balers available, and it is important to choose a baler of the right size after considering the business requirement. The business should first estimate the amount of cardboard waste which is generated daily and the size of cardboard bales which the recycling company prefers to purchase.

There are different types of balers like vertical balers, automatic horizontal balers, and semi-automatic horizontal balers. You can choose among those different types of cardboard balers which differ in their design depending on volume of cardboard waste which is available.

Usually, vertical balers are preferred by small to medium scaled businesses since they take up small floor area, and are economical and practical for a small to medium waste volume processing program. The compacted cubic bales can be stacked on top of each other to save floor space, and easy for transport.

For each baler model, the dimensions of the compressed rectangular bales are specified so that the users can arrange to store and transport the bales accordingly. The density of the cardboard as well as the compressed cardboard bales should also be considered.
