Preventative Maintenance means cost savings, improved safety, and longer lifespan.

Machine repairs may cause unnecessary expenses and delays. However, performing routine maintenance can not only help you to discover potential safety issues, consolidate machine performance, and prolong machine life, but also avoid unexpected downtime and maximize productivity by keeping machines fully functional.

You’ll find some suggestions of the regularly scheduled preventative maintenance for below. They are not all-inclusive, but as a guide only.

  • Clean the power unit and the surface of the oil tank. Keep the machine free of debris, dirt or dust. Make sure the machine surroundings clean and dry.
  • Inspect oil temperature, making sure not over 60 Celsius degrees.
  • Inspect for oil leaks. In case of any leakage, either tighten the nuts or replace seals as needed.
  • Inspect the pressure gauges and make sure pressure values are in the normal range.
  • Inspect hydraulic fittings and connections to make sure all bolts and nuts are in good condition and firmly fastened.
  • Inspect oil level. A decal of “Best Oil Level” is provided on the oil tank. With the cylinder fully retracted, hydraulic oil should be at the best oil level.
  • Check that all safety decals are in good condition.
  • Check all safety switches and make sure they are stay operational
  • Lubricate all fittings.
  • Check hydraulic oil condition. It should not be cloudy or milky in appearance.
  • Check all wirings and connections in control box and verify all are in good working condition.
  • Check for signs of wear and leakage of all hydraulic hoses and seals
  • Change the old oil filter with new one.
  • Drain the oil tank and refill it with new quality hydraulic oil.

In conclusion, any machine with moving parts will require regular maintenance and it is also a fact that parts like seal rings and similar will eventually wear out over time. This is a normal part of owning and using any piece of machinery. Therefore, the most vital thing you can do for your machines to prevent failure is to perform regular cleaning, inspection, and lubrication as scheduled.

Note:

  • All maintenance tasks should be done by trained staff or maintenance professional only.
  • Always remember to follow the lockout/tagout procedure before servicing, repairing, adjusting, or maintaining the machine.
  • Disconnect power before performing any maintenance.
  • Do not climb the baler under any circumstance.
