What Are Hops?
Do you know where beer’s mild bitterness comes from? Hops (also called beer flower) are a climbing perennial herb of genus humulus in the moraceae family, having hairy stems, petioles, and barbed spines. They are the raw materials of beer brewing, and play an irreplaceable role in beer making especially craft beer. Better ingredients always make a better beer. The yellow substances called lupulin inside the hops are the source of bitterness, aroma, and flavor of beer. Therefore, hops are known as the “soul” of beer.
